AB Artist Feature: Honey
It's a new week and we're back with another artist feature! This time around I sat and talked with Honey, an adorable fennec who happens to live on her own floating island! She has been doing art for quite a bit and she was kind enough to answer each and every one of my questions. As always, if you're a creator and would like to do one of our features, please reach out to me! My contact information can be found on the AnthroBrand home page. Now then, on to our interview!
How long have you been drawing?
I have been drawing pretty much since the beginning of school? But I didn’t start doodling EVERY DAY until probably middle school.
How long have you been doing digital art?
I have been drawing digitally for 7 years this year. Christmas is my digital art anniversary!
What was your first digital art tablet? What was good about it, what was bad?
My very first tablet was a Huion. No pen display or anything, just a normal, small, black Huion. I can't remember it too well as this was a very bad time in my life, but it was my everything. I think back now and I would probably never touch a Huion again, because all I remember now are all the connection issues I had with it.
Do you consider yourself a furry? Or do you just enjoy the Anthro community for the art and characters?
I actually did not classify myself as a furry until sometime around the end of 2019. I do not have a "fursona" per say, either. My main character, Honey, is my mascot and I see her as a creature that is by my side rather than "me". I now classify myself as a furry due to how much effort I put into what I do in the community and that I think I would wear a fursuit of my character if I had one!
What brought you to the Anthro community?
I don’t think anything in particular brought me into the community, it just kinda happened; I guess? I believe I was already part of the community before I even knew it had a name.
Who is your favorite artist? What do you admire about them?
My favorite artist tends to change, but right now its Reign-2004, and has been for quite a while! They are so fast and I admire their drive! They also do 3D modelling, which is something I hope to get into in the future!
If you could give one piece of advice to new artists, what would it be?
My advice is don’t just draw for other people, draw for yourself too! Draw because YOU want to and YOU like to; not just because you want to see others smile because you did their commission. I have been focused on the satisfaction of others for a bit to long and I burn myself out every time.
What are your art goals?
My goal right now is to make my own world, that has been stuck in my head for about 6 years, a reality! Also to get better at drawing people!
If you could master any art skill overnight, what would it be?
If I could master any skill overnight, I would have to say 3D modelling. It would be a great help right about now!
Tell me a little known fact about yourself!
I never thought about really being an artist for a long time. I planned on going to school to be a veterinarian and I have always held animals in a special place in my heart. But, life flipped my world upside down, crushed me over and over, and gave me the courage to get back up and move on. If I kept trying to be a veterinarian, however, I would not be here talking to you today.
And there we have it! Another peek into the life of a wonderfully talented artist. I want to say thanks to Honey for participating and answering all of my questions, and allowing me to share her story here on AnthroBrand. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out! See you all again on Wednesday~
